The drug or alcohol use isn't actually the problem
In order to understand and predict the actions and reactions of your loved one during the drug intervention process, it is first important to understand the very nature of addiction itself. Many people mistakenly believe that it is the drug or alcohol abuse that is the problem. Family members of an addict sometimes end up focusing all their energies on the usage, instead of on the underlying things that are causing the alcohol or drug use. In almost every case of actual addiction it is not the substance that is the primary problem, although understandably it’s use is causing problems. Rather, the alcohol or drug use is but one of many symptoms of an underlying problem. That is what effective treatment and recovery is about, getting down to and handling the underlying causes and conditions…the true problem. So what is this underlying problem? Our job as addiction intervention couselors is to help you understand the answer to that question. Addiction doesn't have to be a mystery any longer.
Our trained alcohol and drug intervention counselors educate and empower the family on the following topics of addiction:
- Why Alcoholics and Addicts Behave the way they do.
- Understanding Drug & Alcohol Addiction.
- Predicting the Behaviors of an Alcoholic or Addict
- Disease Model & the 3 Basic Types of Alcohol or Drug Users.
- The Basic Nature of Manipulation.
- Reactions or Manipulations of an Addict during an Alcohol or Drug Intervention.
- How an Addiction Progresses and Why it can Accelerate.
- How a Family can Inadvertently make an Addiction Worse.
The majority of the drug interventionists working for Intervention Services and Technologies, Inc. are what are referred to as "low-bottom" cases. What that means is not necessarily that they ended up homeless, in prison, or destitute (although some did), but rather that they ended up going through the entire dynamic cycle of addiction down to the heaviest or "worst" point of addiction...the chronic phase.
Although the substance itself isn't usually the true problem in terms of recovery, it is important to understand that each substance abused does require a different approach in terms of drug intervention. Our addiction intervention counselors have not only been where your loved one is now, but they have also been where he is going if he doesn't stop.
